I'm not much of a cook at all (I don't think I've ever posted anything on the recipe board!!), but I'm being forced into making more things from scratch because my son has had several food allergies confirmed. He's allergic to dairy, eggs, beef, gluten (wheat & rye) and peanuts. Do any of you have any recipes or sources for recipes for cooking for people with allergies? A lot of the things he can have a actually vegan (no animal products) so vegan recipes would work. He can have any other kind of meat except beef, including wild game and bison, both of which our local meat market sells, which is nice.

http://www.chex.com/Recipes/Default.aspx
I am not sure if they are dairy & Egg free But they are gluten free & There are lots of good snack recipes on here

This is a really good site- maybe you can sub a dairy on recipes can he have- almond or rice milk maybe??
http://www.glutenfreely.com/

I called my good friend who is vegan and she gave me two sites- she wanted me to warn you that there are times when people post  lot of stuff on Vegan sites may be very new age.

http://vegweb.com/ and http://www.veganchef.com/ are two she suggested. I know she uses tofu for sauces and they taste pretty good!

I know I buy a lot of gluten free things on amazon. I have a couple friends who split things with me so we don't all end up with 60 boxes of cookies.
 Hope this helps:)

Just saw this post again...my cousin (from out of state) found out this summer she is allergic to dairy, eggs, and gluten. She came through our town last month and we had lunch at Subway. She likes their salads and she brought her own dressing with her. One thing that surprised me is she asked the bread handler to change his gloves before starting her salad. You have probably already figured out that "tricK" but thought I would pass the tip on.

I have been hearing more and more about "cross contamination" from exactly that kind of thing. I think I thought at first that my son's allergies weren't so bad, and that was just being overly concerned. Now I'm not so sure. It seems even when we try really hard to make sure he's only eating what he's supposed to, he still gets sick. Maybe he's more sensitive than I thought.

Maureen, I would be interested in how this all came about.  Could you PM me your son's story. How it started, did he go to the Dr. or a nutritionist? What tests, anything that you are willing to share would be appreciated.  I keep thinking there is something up with our son which is why I'm asking.  At this point it isn't all the time, but when I notice it, I think I should do something about it and then forget.  Likely means he doesn't have anything severe going on, but he certainly complains about his stomach and at times has some odd bathroom habits. Thanks,
Diney

DD has always been sensitive to dairy. She tried almond milk recently and she and her boyfriend (who is hesitant to try new things) really like it. She is feeling much better than she was when she was drinking limited amounts of cow milk.
