The hot weather is coming - gotta hang on!

« on: December 21, 2011, 09:44:11 AM »

My neighbor gave me this recipe a long time ago - it was called "trash" because you're supposed to mix it in a (clean) trash bag.  That sounded gross to me so I use a large bowl with a lid, but the name stuck.  Everyone loves this, no matter where I take it:

1 box Crispix cereal (I used the store brand)
1/2 stick butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups 10x sugar

place cereal in a large bowl.  Melt the butter, chocolate chips and peanut butter on the stove or in the microwave.  Stir in vanilla.  Pour over cereal and stir to coat all of the pieces.  Add 10 x sugar, cover and shake until everything is covered in the powdered sugar.

My son took it to school for a party today and I added Holiday M&M's to make it look like Christmas.  I've also added in pretzels- just add a little more chocolate and peanut butter.

Yep...I thought that sounded like Puppy Chow!  You can buy it in the grocery store, but the homemade version is WAY better!

yes - I've had them by all three names and love them every time.  My son (27) can't eat it quickly enough.  He'll be so excited that I finally have the recipe to make him a batch.
