Should we be concerned about who advertises on this site?  I read one this morning at the bottom of my screen and I am a little concerned about what "religions" advertise here.

What Condi said is true. The ads are generated to be specific to your site. The can be somewhat filtered, so if you see something that seem really peculiar, please PM me and let me know and I will see what can be done. They do rotate, so I don't always see the same ones you do.
