When we had our Thompson Food Basket grocery store, their deli had the BEST spaghetti pie!  It was "American"...kind of bland...no Italian seasoning to it, but it was good anyway.  All I could ever tell was that it was DENSE.  It was mostly spaghetti, but when you took it out of the deli bowl, it kind of kept its shape...there was hamburger in it and probably some spaghetti sauce.  It seems like it might have been "angel hair" pasta or some other really thin pasta.

Would a person put the ingredients together and then bake it in the oven, like baked ziti or something?  Anyone know?  'Cause I'd make it in an instant if I knew how.  I'm too old to remember where my cookbooks are, isn't that SAD? sad

I do have a recipe for spaghetti pie, but it's at home.  Haven't made it for years, but it is good.  I seem to recall that you use an egg to "bind" the spaghetti together.  You cook the pasta first and then use that as a crust for the sauce, meat and cheese.  You do bake it in the oven. I'll try to remember to post it later.

Never heard of spaghetti pie, but my mother used to make baked spaghetti.  She'd just make the spaghetti with meat sauce like you normally would with the sauce mixed in with the noodles.  Then she'd layer that with hard salami, ham and pepperoni slices, and cheese.  She'd top it with shredded mozzarella and bake it at 350 for about 30 minutes or until heated all the way through and the cheese slightly browned.  It is kind of like lasagna, but not exactly.  I didn't like it as a kid, b/c it had too much meat and cheese for me, but I like it now.

OK, I found my recipe for Spaghetti Pie.  Haven't made it in a long time, but I do recall that it's good!

6 oz. spaghetti noodles
2 Tbs. butter or margarine
2/3 c. Parmesan cheese
2 eggs, well beaten
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 15 1/2 oz. jar spaghetti sauce
1 c. cottage cheese
1/2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese

Cook spaghetti and drain.  Toss with butter, Parmesan cheese and eggs.  Form spaghetti into a crust in a buttered 10" pie dish.  Brown ground beef and onion, drain.  Add spaghetti sauce and heat through.  Spread cottage cheese over spaghetti crust, then beef mixture.  Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.  Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, bake 5 minutes more or until cheese melts.

I made it once, but I wasn't impressed with the recipe. The way you described it makes sense to me, in the way it would taste good. If you make these, I'd like to know how they panned out.
