Cranberry Pear Pie
by Gina in Odessa, TX (She's a former church secretary.)

5 medium red pears (5 cups)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon finely shredded orange peel
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups cranberries
1 unbaked pie crust
1 Tablespoon margarine or butter, cut up
1 receipe Glazed Nut Topping (see below)
1 cup sweetened whipped cream (optional)

Peel, core, and slice pears. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, orange peel and cinnamon. Add pears and cranberries; toss to coat. Spoon into pie crust. Dot with butter. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Spoon Glazed Nut Topping over warm pie. Cool on wire rack before serving. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.

Glazed Nut Topping: In a small saucepan combine 1/2 cup chopped walnuts and 2 tablespoons margarine or butter. Cook and stir over medium heat until nuts are lightly browned; stir in 3 tablespoons brown sugar. Heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in 1 tablespoon milk.

Oh, this sound wonderful. I wish I was going to be home this weekend to make it. Guess I will be buying some red pears next week! Thanks for sharing. I love cranberries.
